Three More Pasta Products Recalled; 16 Total
Kroger and Giant Eagle have added products to a pasta recall tied to a deadly Listeria outbreak. That marks 16 products recalled in the last 2 weeks.
The Pasta Recall Adds Three More Products
Three new deli pasta salads were added to the growing listeria outbreak responsible for illnesses across 15 states, including 19 hospitalizations, 4 deaths, and one pregnancy-associated loss. Multiple supermarket chains in the Kroger family produced the pasta salads in 30 states. Giant Eagle stores affected by the recall are located in western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, and Indiana.
These new recalls join earlier actions taken by multiple supermarket chains in the Albertsons family, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, and a brand-level recall from Scott & Jon’s. The 16 recalled products all trace back to pre-cooked pasta from Nate’s Fine Foods that tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The full list of all items under recall can be accessed in the FDA’s Listeria Outbreak Investigation.

What Is Listeria and Why Does It Matter?
Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacteria that can survive in the fridge and spread to shelves and other foods. It’s especially risky for pregnant people and their babies, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system. In this pasta outbreak, officials report 20 illnesses across 15 states, 19 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths. Symptoms can start the same day or take up to 10 weeks to appear. They often begin with symptoms such as fever, tiredness, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. More serious illnesses can cause headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or seizures, and during pregnancy, they can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth. If you ate a recalled product and develop symptoms, contact your healthcare provider right away. CDC
How to Clean After Listeria Contamination
Empty the fridge (shelves and drawers out).
Wash with hot, soapy water; rinse.
Sanitize: 1 tablespoon liquid bleach in 1 gallon of water; let air-dry.
Wash or wipe any containers that touched the recalled food.
Toss anything that leaked or seems exposed.
Guide: CDC fridge cleaning steps. CDC
